How to Cancel Mailchimp

Mailchimp gives you three different exits: pause your plan (keeps your data, stops billing temporarily), downgrade to a cheaper or free tier, or permanently delete the account. Picking the wrong one can wipe audience data you wanted to keep. There is no cancellation fee, but Mailchimp does not refund unused time. Menu labels shift, so confirm the live steps before acting.

How to cancel, step by step

1Decide: pause, downgrade, or delete

Pause stops billing and saves your data for 3 or 6 months. Downgrade keeps the account on a cheaper or free tier. Delete permanently removes the account and all data.

2Open Account & billing

Click your profile icon and choose Account & billing (or Account), then open the Settings drop-down and choose Manage my plan.

3To pause billing

In the Temporarily pause my Marketing plan section, click Pause my plan, choose 3 or 6 months, then click Pause Marketing plan. You're limited to 2 pauses per 12 months.

4To downgrade

From Manage my plan, change your plan type or pricing tier. The downgrade takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle; you keep current features until then.

5To permanently delete

From Manage my plan, click Delete my account, confirm your password, type DELETE in the confirmation field, and click Permanently delete.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a cancellation fee?

No. Mailchimp does not charge a fee to pause, downgrade, or delete an account.

What's the difference between pausing and deleting?

Pausing stops billing but keeps your data so you can resume later. Deleting permanently destroys the account and its data and cannot be undone.

Can I just move to the free plan instead of deleting?

Yes. If your needs shrank, downgrading to a free or cheaper tier keeps your account and data while stopping the higher charge at the next cycle.
